Plant Profile – SWEEPER a Waterhousea with a weeping habit
Plant Profile – SWEEPER Waterhousea floribunda ‘DOW20’A
This stunning new selection of Waterhousea floribunda called Sweeper will sweep you away. It features a heavily weeping habit with dark green foliage and flushes of brilliant lush green new growth in Spring/Summer, with a distinctive rippled effect to the leaf. Sweeper is a much denser form than the common Waterhousea floribunda making it the ideal plant for a large dense screen. It is estimated that Sweeper will generally grow to 10m high as a garden, landscape specimen, but for areas similar to a rainforest type environment with high rainfall and moist humid conditions specimens may grow to 25-30m tall.
Sweeper makes a stunning street tree, feature plant or shade tree for suburban gardens and parklands. Sweeper is well suited to all landscape applications and large specimens have been used successfully in pavement plantings creating a lovely softening effect in a harsh concrete environment. Sweeper can also be successfully used as a hedge from 2m high.
Sweeper will thrive in full sun to part shade and prefers moist well drained soils. Sweeper can tolerate light frosts in the cooler climates but it will need protection from heavy frosts. Avoid planting in areas that are raised and exposed to hot dry winds. In summer Sweeper will flower with large clusters of white flowers, followed by bunches of small globular pale green fruit.
