Sapphire Buffalo Turf - Proven #1 in the shade - Sapphire Stenotaphrum secundatum 'B12' PBR

Aussie grown and bred, Sapphire turf is the only high performance, fine textured Buffalo in the world. Recently found to be the number 1 soft leaf buffalo grass in shade by research (HAL and Department of Primary Industries Research), Sapphire is so soft, so fine and so beautiful, and ideal for maturing landscapes.

Sapphire has a finer softer texture than other soft leaf buffalos. The leaf is generally about 17% finer and when the turf matures the leaf actually folds in half up and down its axis, making it even finer textured. When comparing a mature Sapphire lawn to other buffalo types, they tend to look more coarse, rough and harsh. Also consistent with having less thatch, Sapphire is proving to be less spongy than other buffalo varieties, taking away that sinking feeling.

Sapphire has a superior, stunning deep blue green colour. It holds its colour very well through winter, making you the envy of all your neighbours. In areas of heavy repeated frosts it may discolour and go dormant, however will green up very quick in spring, especially if it is fertilised well in April. Having less thatch enhances Sapphire’s winter colour. Recent research has shown that in the 1st year after installation, the richness of colour across various Buffalo varieties are quite similar. However, by year 2 to 3, other varieties develop spongy, thatchy characteristics, and with this less colour. By year 3 to 4, Sapphire is markedly different, maintaining its stunning deep bottle green colour, looking fresher and healthier, whilst all other varieties fade.

Sapphire’s wear tolerance makes it perfect for families with kids and pets. Sapphire is very easy to install, establishes well and grows rapidly across the ground. This provides a quick recovery from wear, allowing it to cope well with high traffic situations. In extra high wear areas it is recommended that you fertilise and water more than normal. Low seed head, 39% less than other buffalo varieties, make it better for people with allergies. Excellent at outcompeting weeds, Sapphires tight mat and high performance leave very little room for weeds to grow.

Extremely drought tolerant, Sapphires deep root system keeps it looking great for longer with less water. In normal soils on the east coast of Australia Sapphire should only need watering in the warmer months, and in general once every few weeks should be enough. Salt tolerant, Sapphire performs around salt water pools, with recent research finding Sapphire performing better than other Buffalo varieties in this situation (DPI Research).

Sapphire is a stunning high performance soft leaf Buffalo turf. Ideal for any domestic or commercial lawn, and will withstand high demands. With beautiful deep blue colour, and very little maintenance required, Sapphire is a typical mow and grow lawn, leaving you more time to sit back and enjoy your stunning soft leaf lawn.
